Heute Morgen schlief ich wieder einmal richtig aus, bis nach 9 Uhr. Aber als ich realisierte an welch schönem Ort ich mich befand, war ich im Nu auf und am herrlichen Frühstücksbüffet. Ich genoss es geschlagene 1 1/2 Stunden, vor allem die Kaffeemaschine mit den super Espressi und den Champagner - was für ein Leben!

This morning I slept in for once until just after 9 am. But when I realized in what beautiful place I was I got up in no time and went to the fabulous breakfast buffet. I enjoyed it for one and a half hour, especially the coffee machine with its superb espressi and the champagne - what a life!

 

 

Matilde

 

Danach buchte ich bei Matilde einen Bootsausflug um die vorgelagerten Inseln am späteren Nachmittag und verlängerte meinen Aufenthalt in diesem fantastischen Hotel von ursprünglich 2 auf 3 Nächte.

Thereafter I booked a boat tour for the late afternoon with Matilde and extended my stay in this fantastic hotel from 2 to 3 nights.

Mit vollem Magen legte ich mich dann an den Pool und döste etwas in der milden Sonne mit einer sanfter Briese...

Am späteren Nachmittag, als die Sonne nicht mehr senkrecht herab brannte, wurde ich etwas aktiver und ging den Salinen entlang auf den Sandbänken eine Stunde joggen. Es war absolut angenehm mit der Brise, die über die flache Moorlandschaft zog. Wieder hatte ich den Drang Muscheln zu sammeln, welche hier ganz anders aussehen und glücklicherweise viel kleiner und nicht so schwer sind, so dass ich sie in meine grossen Jogginghosentaschen verstauen konnte!

With a full stomach I took a snooze at the pool in the mild sun with a gentle breeze later on...

In the later afternoon, when the sun wasn't burning down vertically any more, I went for an hours' run along the salines on the sandbanks. It was absolutely pleasent in the mild breeze which blew over the flat marshlands. Again I felt the urge to collect shells, which look different and luckily are much smaller and lighter so that I could stow them in the big pockets of my jogging trousers!

Um 17:30 Uhr ging es dann am Steg vor dem Hotel los mit Pedro auf eine 2 stündige Bootstour. In dieser Region werden viele verschiedene Muschelarten kultiviert und es sind mehr als 200 Vogelarten anzutreffen. Es war eine sehr interessante Fahrt in der friedlichen Gegend mit einem kurzen Spaziergang auf der Ilha de Tavira.

At 5:30 pm we went off with Pedro on our 2 hours' boat trip from the pier just outside of the hotel. In this region lots of different shellfish are cultivated and more than 200 species of birds can be spotted. It was a very interesting tour in a peaceful area with a short walk on Ilha de Tavira.

Restaurant Noelle e Jeronimo, Cabanas 

 

Zurück im Hotel verspürte ich ein kleines Hüngerchen und noch eine grössere Lust auf einen Vinho Verde und einen frischen Fisch... Da das Restaurant auf der andern Seite des Rio Gilão heute Ruhetag hatte, beschloss ich in Richtung Neuland, also Osten, aufzubrechen und fuhr in den nächsten Ort Cabanas. Entlang der Uferpromenade zog mich das Restaurant Noelle e Jeronimo mit seinen Wänden dekoriert mit Weinflaschen magisch an... welch sicherer Instinkt (oder ästhetisches Auge?) ich hatte: Es war nach der Seespinne, meinem ersten Abendessen hier in Portugal, das beste Essen! Ich bestellte für einmal ein grilliertes Thunfischsteak (da ich schon auf einem ehemaligen Thunfischfang-Anwesen wohne!), das mit einer exzellenten Pestosauce serviert wurde - mmmhhhhh! Übrigens hätte ich eine halbe Stunde keinen Platz mehr gefunden da viele Portugiesen erst so ab 21 Uhr essen gehen.

Back at the hotel I felt a bit of a hunger and even more like a vinho verde and a fresh fish… Because the restaurant on the other side of the Rio Gilão was closed today I decided to explore new land, thus direction east, and drove to the next village called Cabanas. Along the water promenade I was attracted magically by the restaurant Noelle e Jeronimo with its walls decorated with wine bottles… what an unerring instinct (or an esthetic eye?) I had: After the spider crab I had for my first dinner here in Portugal it was the best meal! For once I ordered a grilled tuna (not only because I now live in a hotel which used to be tuna fishing village!), which was served with an excellent pesto sauce – mmmhhhh! By the way, half an hour later I wouldn’t have found a free table as lots of Portuguese go for dinner only from 9 pm onwards.
